I've been on Second Life since November 2007...I just went to "check it out"...you get "hooked"...I have had a "job" there for 1.5 years, I have a partner, I own a large lot of land and I am a content creator with a "store" in Second Life. It does become another aspect of your RL.

Kudos on the Lennon/McCartney reference. I love the Beatles! As I type this I have Revolver on. I have to agree about 2.0 applications perfecting connection. I just wrote a post about using 2.0 technologies as a way for our group to meet rather than trucking down to St. Kate's.

Right on. I agree. Librarians need to "let go" of their controls. Open access movements are surfacing regularly now. See Harvard's latest news about their open access repository.
Are public librarians able to "let go" easier/faster? If so why?

Oh, how true. Yes, I do worry about what I have put up that could be viewable by anyone on the web. I do not share a lot of personal life with everyone I work with so why would I want to do that in a broader way, visible to anyone in the world.

If I were an employer, I would look at websites that display resumes of my present employees. It should tell me that my present employees may not be completely happy. Already I look at organizational websites to see if I can find a picture of an individual who is coming to interview.

I must say that I am not completely comfortable knowing that someone who had my name could easily find my address and phone number. Now they can even see a picture of my home. When will the camera be installed on the city street outside my home that will capture my comings and goings?

I agree that we need to have it both ways. While I love that people no longer have to be silent at the library and are allowed to have fun, we need those quiet spaces in the library where people can engage in those activities that you mentioned. I think libraries can and should offer both of these options.

Absolutely... I always felt like I had found the people that got me -- be it Twin peaks or Fleetwood Mac -- and it feels good to be noticed.

Nice work.
